Sheffield Grand Prix – Wednesday 19 July




The 2023 Sheffield Grand Prix cycle race will be held on Wednesday 19 July in the city centre. The event, now in its 9th year will again be part of the British Cycling National Circuit Race Series and will attract the UK’s top teams and riders to race around a new reworked 1.4km circuit.

To ensure safety of visitors and competitors there will be road closures in place in the city centre between 16:30 and 22:30. 

Impact on bus services
The city centre road closures between 16:30 and 22:30 will have an effect on bus services using Furnival Gate and Arundel Gate and will result is some services being diverted while the event takes place as follows:
  •  Bus services that normally use Arundel Gate from Furnival Square towards Castle Square will be diverted to run along Furnival Street, Brown Street, Paternoster Row, Pond Street, Flat Street, and Fitzalan Square. 
  • Services 41 and 120 will loop around Angel Street, Castle Street and Haymarket to serve bus stop CG21
  • Service 252 will serve bus stop CG20 on Haymarket and its normal stands at Sheffield Interchange.

Traffic will still be able to travel along Arundel Gate from Castle Square towards Furnival Square.
  • Buses that normally use Furnival Gate between Charter Square and Furnival Square will need to be diverted from Rockingham Street via Charter Row, Fitzwilliam Gate, Cumberland Street and Eyre Street. 
Service 51:
  • Towards Charnock will be unable to serve bus stop MH4 on Furnival Gate due to turning right out of Rockingham Street but the rest of the route towards Charnockwill operate as normal. 
  • Towards Lodge Moor will follow the Arundel Gate diversion.
