#StaySafeSaveLives - Do not use public transport unless you need to

Public transport in South Yorkshire might look different for a while. Please be patient while we all get used to a new way of travelling. And please only travel if you need to.

Reduced timetables will operate until further notice, with most bus services operating a reduced, hourly or Sunday service with some additional journeys to protect shift work and key worker journeys.

More information, including rail travel updates is available on our Service Changes page.

More information on how we're working to keep you updated is on our Coronavirus page.

  • Doncaster Town Centre - Social Distancing Changes from 20/05

  • 19/05/2020 09:59:26 Posted:

From the start of service on Wednesday 20 May buses normally using Cleveland Street, Wood Street, Hallgate, Princes Street and Silver Street, will be diverted via Waterdale.

This is to assist with social distancing in Doncaster town centre, providing more area for queuing at shops and keeping pedestrian movements as spread out as possible. Queues at busy stops would risk social distancing breaches and conflict with queues outside businesses. Therefore, the following changes will be in place:

Service 15 will serve Waterdale (stop WD1), and will then serve stops on East Laithe Gate, Nether Hall Road and Market Road as normal.

Services 66, 81 and 82 to serve Waterdale (stop WD1) and the first temporary stop on Thorne Rd (opposite Christ Church).

Services 84 and 87 to serve Waterdale (stop WD1) and the second temporary stop on Thorne Rd (opposite Christ Church).

Services 21, 29, 55, and 73 will serve the first temporary stop on Waterdale (the temporary stop furthest from the shelter). These services will then serve their normal stops at Regent Square.

Services 57c, 57f, 58f and 399 will serve the second temporary stop on Waterdale (the temporary stop nearest the shelter). These services will then serve their normal stops at Regent Square.

Service 56 will not serve any town centre stops after leaving the interchange. All passengers must use Frenchgate to board this serivce.

    Alighting passengers

All inbound services normally using Wood Street and Cleveland Street will instead use Waterdale and College Road before going to the interchange.

Alighting only stops will be provided on Waterdale (outside the Civic Building) as well as stops already in place on College Road.

There will be notices on bus stops on Cleveland Street, Wood Street, Hallgate, Princes Street and Thorne Road.

  • 22/04/2020 08:21:54 Posted:

    Supertram Rail Replacement Scheme

The tram rail replacement project continues in 2020, with work scheduled for sections track that were initially laid in the early 1990’s, the new rail will improve passenger comfort and reduce noise in areas where the track is worn. The essential works, which began in 2013, will replace a total of 22 kilometers of worn out sections of tram tracks across the Supertram network by 2024.

This year, works take place between May 2020 and September 2020.

    Area 1 - Hackenthorpe/Donetsk Way - Monday 4 May to Friday 5 June 2020

Area 2 - White Lane and Norton Ave - Saturday 6 June to Friday 24 July 2020

  • Supertram Rail Replacement Works 2020 - Area One

  • 22/04/2020 08:48:38 Posted:

The tram rail replacement project continues in 2020, with work scheduled for sections track that were initially laid in the early 1990’s. The first area of work will take place at Hackenthorpe and Donetsk Way

    Area 1: Hackenthorpe/Donetsk Way - Monday 4 May to Friday 5 June 2020

Area 1 works for 2020 are planned to start from Monday 4 May to Friday 5 June 2020 in the Hackenthorpe area around Sheffield Road, Donetsk Way and Birley Golf Course, affecting Blue and Purple tram routes. VolkerRail will carry out some evening works from Sunday 3 May but these will not impact on tram services.

How will the works affect tram services?

From Monday 4 May, trams will operate as follows:

Blue Route will operate between Malin Bridge and Birley Lane only and will run a revised timetable. Birley Moor Road, Hackenthorpe, Donetsk Way, Moss Way, Crystal Peaks, Beighton/Drakehouse Lane, Waterthope Westfield and Halfway tram stops will not be served.

Purple Route will operate the normal route between Cathedral and Herdings Park but at a new reduced frequency

Yellow Route and Tram Train are not affected and will operate the current Covid-19 reduced timetable during this time.

What are the public transport alternatives?

    Monday 4 May – Friday 5 June

From Monday 4 May works will be taking place between Birley Lane and Halfway tram stops. The Blue Route tram will terminate at Birley Lane; therefore, tram stops between Birley Moor Road and Halfway will not be served.

The latest advice from Government is that people should stay at home where possible and public transport should only be used for essential journeys. For those that do need to travel, including key workers travelling to and from work, bus services 120 or 80a are available as an alternative to the tram:

    • Service 120 runs between Halfway and the city centre and
    • Service 80a operates between Birley Moor Road and the city centre.

To help provide essential travel options to key workers at this time Stagecoach will accept Tram Only tickets on their buses in Sheffield. Please note, the bus must be travelling in areas where the tram runs, and the following conditions apply:

    • Tram Only tickets can only be used to make similar bus journeys to those normally taken on the tram.
    • The ticket is not valid for journeys beyond these areas where the final destination could not be reached by tram.

    Halfway Park and Ride

Halfway Park and Ride site will remain open during these works. Park and Ride will be free whilst these essential works take place. Customers can buy their travel ticket on board.

More information on the rail replacement works can be found here.
