News release: South Yorkshire bus service changes

Bus companies are set to make alterations to some South Yorkshire services from Sunday 2 October in response to government funding changes and changing travel patterns.

Many services will see route or timetable revisions, with some services withdrawn.

The changes come after Government announced an extension to its Bus Recovery Grant funding on 19 August, provided to bus companies throughout the pandemic to protect bus routes. Despite the emergency support package now running for a further six months, from October 2022 until March 2023, some bus companies have taken the decision to remove services due to a shortage of drivers.

Additional funding from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority for bus contracts has been offered to bus companies to run as many routes as possible. It follows a recent call for communities to help shape how the region’s public money is used to support buses.

Passengers can find information about service changes on the Service Changes page and via Traveline on 01709 51 51 51. New bus timetables will be published once available.
