New lifesaving equipment at Swinton interchange

Swinton’s busy transport interchange has been provided with a brand-new community public access defibrillator.

Thanks to the donation of a temperature controlled access cabinet, provided by Rotherham based charity ‘Start a Heart 24/7’, the defib will be available for passengers, staff and the wider community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the event of an emergency.

The defib was purchased by Swinton ward councillors, and SYPTE arranged to have it fitted. We're pleased to support the ongoing monitoring of the equipment and our on-site Customer Service Ambassadors will complete the required routine checks to make sure it is ready to be used at any time.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service has also supported the project and provided advice throughout whilst a recently formed ‘Friends of Swinton Station’ group, established to bring a community focus and local character to the station, have also taken a keen interest in the project.

Tim Taylor, SYPTE’s Director of Customer Services, says:

“This project shows what can be achieved when we work together to improve our local communities. Making public transport safe and accessible to all is a priority for SYPTE and the defibrillator will make Swinton interchange an even safer place for passengers and staff.”
